  • Using Puppets and Avatars in Low Technical Fidelity / High Emotional Fidelity Simulations and Visualizations

Puppets and avatars with relatively low technical fidelity (non-photographic or simple/crude graphic representations) may have high recognition factors/triggers and high emotional and cognitive impact in helping learners to construct new knowledge and understanding in novel situations. Example: troll-style puppets can help right-wing extremists and trump-stans understand that Trump is a dangerous racist, fascist, and criminal and must be incarcerated for the safety of us all. His cult followers must be de-programmed. Download, print, cut, and assemble your own scenes to clarify your understanding.

  • You Are Loved - Song Writing Challenge

I set these words to music:
You are Loved, You are Worthy, You are Beautiful, You are Strong, Irreplaceable, You Belong.
These words may be spoken, sung as song, and can be the chorus to a longer song with verses. I am currently writing additional verses.
Imagine speaking or singing these words to child at their birth, and on their birthdays, or whenever, just because.
Imagine a business organization in which the people can say this sincerely to each other.
    Imagine a community…

I invite you to download the pdf lead sheet for You Are Loved, learn it and perform it, and write addition verses that reflect your own experience and aspirations.

  • Anti-Bias Action Guide & Learning Plan

Everyone holds unconscious beliefs that trigger biases and inform decision making and action.
Bias is usually considered to be unfair as it confers arbitrary advantages and disadvantages on individuals and groups based on predjudice. Biases result in harmful micro-aggressions.
The Anti-Bias Action Guide provides direction in the identification and disruption of bias and micro-aggression.

I WONDER is a fun read that carries a simple, uplifting message: we can believe in ourselves and accomplish more than we might imagine.

Don Shearer is the author and illustrator of I WONDER. The illustrations for I WONDER were created in Adobe Illustrator. The page layouts were done in Adobe InDesign. The font throughout is Iowan Old Style. I use Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Aero, and Apple GarageBand to create companion digital media. No AI generated content is used in creating my illustrations.

Recommended for ages 3 and up.

While I WONDER can be enjoyed just for fun, the book also aligns with Social Emotional Learning standards, and with Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools and lesson plans for Pre-K through Grade Four:

The Solution: Using the technique of Envisioning with a core set of interview questions, the Team produced an impactful documentary of congregational life of BIPOC members that has made a positive difference in the lives of the community, and has been featured in the "We Built People of Color Visibility with Video" workshop presented at the UU General Assembly in Spokane, WA, 2019.

Envisioning: Collaborative articulation of shared stakeholder vision, values, goals and objectives, as well as the roles, responsibilities, and actions necessary for an organization to achieve its mission.

    Here’s a summary:

    What:
Stakeholders participate in facilitated collaboration to develop, document, and deliver key messages and themes, guiding metaphors, and authentic stories in variety of communications and media to support Change and Training initiatives in organizations.

    Who:
Stakeholder participants are Leaders, Individual contributors, Partners, and Customers who have a personal and/or professional stake in the success of the initiative.

    Why:
Envisioning identifies and communicates the compass bearings that anyone in an organization can follow to ensure alignment on shared visions, values, goals and objectives, and strategies.

    When:
Envisioning collaboration should begin as early as possible in the life cycle of a business initiative, and be sustained as the initiative matures.

    Where:
Messaging is delivered via a mix of media and events at locations appropriate to the organizational culture. Channels and events for communication may include (but are not limited to): training, recruitment, staff meetings, all hands meetings, and recognition events.

    How:
Stakeholder interviews, using a common set of questions, are recorded to capture and share the passion of authentic stories from diverse perspectives and in the stakeholders’ own words. Multiple, short videos are edited around the themes of the various questions; the videos are integrated into other media and communicated through various channels and events.
