Doreen helped excavate a bison site at the National Elk Refuge outside Jackson Hole, Wyo. She joined Kenneth Cannon, of the National Park Service's Midwest Archeological Center, and six other volunteers for two weeks of digging and camping with views of the Grand Tetons. By the end of the dig, Doreen could tell the difference between a rock and rock that had been formed into a tool.
