“I've worked in the Recruiting world for years and asked Drake for a practice interview as I wanted to brush up on my skills for the other side of the interview. I was amazed by the high level of professionalism that was only surpassed by the sincerity in his communication with me as an "applicant". You can tell he has his head on straight and I walked away feeling confident that he will go far in his career.”

You're in a job interview and feeling the pressure. What are some strategies for managing stress?
I always recommend that a candidate researches the company. Know what they do, but also who works there and the tenures of current employees. try to find people in the department you are applying to and see their LinkedIn profiles to get a feel for where they have come from to have a better understanding and also give you the chance to ask about a specific person's journey if similar to yours. You also then have the chance to start connecting with people and maybe even set up a time to ask some questions before the interview.

How do you overcome stalls and smokescreens in cold calling?
I review the questions I asked every time. Did I get the answer I was looking for? If not, do I need to re-evaluate the question, do I need to re-evaluate the sourcing, or was there some other source of miscommunication encountered- Did I explain the process completely on the front end to ensure the candidate understood what the process was and were they comfortable in the interview to feel a sense of trust with me and what I am looking to achieve? Interviews are a sales process but they are a 2-way sales process- A recruiter must sell the opportunity and company just as well as the interviewee or candidate must sell their experience and career aspirations, so a level of trust needs to be developed to overcome the stalls and smokescreens.

How do you overcome stalls and smokescreens in cold calling?
This is always simple for me. I am open and honest about the call. I have a need for a position, I noticed on your LinkedIn or resume that you have some of the traits or skills that align with what we are looking for. Can we speak for a few minutes to see if this aligns with your career aspirations and with my company's mission, vision, and values?
