What are the challenges and benefits of using machine learning for branch prediction?
In a CPU, branch prediction has to be done within 1 or 2 clocks to avoid causing bubble in the instruction pipeline. This implies the inference based on machine learning model has to provide results in a few clock cycles. Another challenge is that machine would learn based on the SW sequence it is fed. As the SW sequence changes, the model has to be retrained.

What are the challenges and benefits of using machine learning for branch prediction?
Current branch prediction algorithms are highly accurate but have challenges if the instructions sequences are not repetitive or repeating after a larger stride. Machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms can bring the accuracy much higher and address the limitations of existing algorithms. Machine learning can predict many of the non-repetitive patterns.

What are the challenges and benefits of using machine learning for branch prediction?
Branch Prediction has two specific requirements. First one is to predict the branch is taken or not taken. Second is branch target which is equally important. Branch target, if incorrect, will result in instruction fetch from wrong address. This causes penalty and requires pipeline flush.
