    This article discusses the impact of social media in allowing consumers to create a public image of themselves - Brand Me - and identifies three key trends. These trends should not be considered short-term, as they are an expression of long-standing consumer desires. 'You only live once' (YOLO) is a trend that focusses on experiences over things, with these being shared on social media: brands that deliver experiences in unexpected ways will be appreciated and shared by consumers. 'The rise of the selfie' trend (posting self-portraits online) allows people to create images and decide how to present themselves to the world, the opportunity for marketers is twofold: celebrity selfies may help brands to promote products, and selfies shared by consumers often include products they like. The final trend - zero distancing - describes the ability of fans to communicate directly with celebrities. Marketers should pay attention to this trend as celebrities that have closer connections with fans are more influential.
