A hyperfocus on what are the key goals is crucial to understanding if emerging technologies would even be needed to achieve the objectives at hand. Technologies especially in the AI and automation space can be extremely helpful to streamline needs and save time. However, it can also cause trouble down the line as newer technologies could still be in learning phase and evolving during that process which can be subject to errors for businesses leveraging it.

One thing I’ve found helpful is sending a personalized message to new contacts on one specific topic to add value in conversation or so the contact can remember the connection from initial outreach. To reconnect with existing contacts (esp ones you haven’t spoken to in awhile), many folks feel it’s intimidating to do so and not coming from an authentic place. Reaching out during seasonal or holidays is an easier way to break the ice and can help take away the awkwardness some might feel.

One thing I’ve found helpful in building professional, client and personal relationships is to remember what they’re interested or looking to achieve and connect similar like minded folks in my network that can help. Sometimes people feel like they have to do something above and beyond to add exceptional value to others. Don’t underestimate the simple things you can do in this space to show people you care and contribute where possible.

For many folks, continuous learning is tough because there’s not enough hours in the day so it’s hard to carve out dedicated time for it. Two things I’ve found that’s helpful: 1) audio podcasting while commuting into the office. You can do this while driving or taking public transit to work. The Tim Ferriss Show is an oldie but still one of my favorites! 2) power hour where you catch up over lunch with like-minded coworkers also interested in building or learning about similar topics as yourself (ie practicing new language, value investing….)

Giving yourself a 5-10 min break after each hour of meetings or productive work can be the key to combating burnout. Try setting 15 min or 25 min meeting increments to give yourself 5 or 15 min breaks in between back to back meetings so you can follow up on the action items from meeting while it’s fresh in your mind or prep for the next call.

Calendar management is huge here. Block off times where you will need to prioritize family responsibilities (drop off, pick up), focus time, core working hours and meeting efficiency. Depending on preference, it may even be helpful to include a “my working hours may not necessarily be your working hours….” messaging to provide more context for when you send emails during out of normal business ‘working hours’ time.
