How can teacher mentoring help you bridge the gap between theory and practice?
The most effective bridge between the theory of teaching and the practice is an experienced teacher who is still actively serving in that role and willing to share what they have learned in their journey. This means developing a rapport with a level of trust that allows both to feel free to discuss the challenges and commitment required. They are on the same path. The experienced teacher is simply further along and can warn the new teacher of the pitfalls ahead, especially when they are vulnerable enough to share the mistakes they have made. The mentor can save the new teacher heartache and frustration when they share the tools to effective teaching they have developed.
