  • Arthur Lima – Addressing institutional racism in Brazil’s healthcare system for the Afro-Brazilian community

    Yunus & Youth

[Introduction]: “When you talk to people about your problem, you will find that it is someone else’s problem, too.” For 28-year-old Arthur Lima from Salvador, Brazil, his problem was one oft-ignored, but one that plagued the lives of many other Afro-Brazilians like him: the problem of institutional racism in the healthcare system of Brazil. Fortunately, Arthur went on to found and serve as the CEO of “AfroSaúde” – an initiative that helps increase access to healthcare for the Afro-Brazilians in…

  • A Christian, a Muslim, and an Atheist Went out for Dinner

    -

Alarmed by xenophobia raising its ugly head globally, I decided to launch a series of real-life nonfiction stories recounting my interactions, as a Muslim, with a Christian and an Athiest friends, and the memories we made.

These were shared on my travelogue. The aim was to encourage the idea of universal love and acceptance.

The stories were written in a whimsical manner to be attractive. Fortunately, I had around 5500 views over my 6 entries. This all happened when the blog was…

The stories were written in a whimsical manner to be attractive. Fortunately, I had around 5500 views over my 6 entries. This all happened when the blog was very new.

Excerpt from the first blog: "In a world that is heartbreakingly divisive, one often feels out of control. When hatred raises its ugly head, that is when love soars higher. I do believe in empowering human beings through respect and value- no matter what. Despite our few differences, there are great reasons for us to come closer. And they can be as simple as a late night dinner.

  • Help Enes Go to College

    -

In the summer of 2017, I organized and led a global fundraising project to help generate funds for the education of a student, Enes, from Serbia. The aim was to help him enroll, cover the initial costs, and help him travel from his home country to his college in San Francisco, USA.

I was able to reach out to wonderful supporters from over 20 different countries through social media. Our main team was based in Islamabad, Pakistan, and helped generate $80 - $100 each which was then…

I was able to reach out to wonderful supporters from over 20 different countries through social media. Our main team was based in Islamabad, Pakistan, and helped generate $80 - $100 each which was then deposited in the Youcaring Fundraiser. As highschool students, we raised $2461/$2400 in less than 3 months. We raised $701/$600 in less than 4 days (for the initial deposit).

We were highly successful and helping Enes enroll in Minerva and reach San Francisco.
