AI is a tremendous opportunity to rethink the shopping experience and make it REALLY customer centric. In essence, AI-driven search, discovery, recommendation and personalization engines can create a more intuitive, effortless, and satisfying shopping experience for customers. By doing so, e-commerce platforms can boost customer satisfaction, increase loyalty, and ultimately drive more sales.

By understanding the context of the image, including factors like location, weather, and other visual characteristics, e-commerce platforms can recommend products that appeal to customers, thereby increasing the chances of a purchase.

By enabling Natural Language Processing, Visual Recognition, or Voice Recognition, AI can generate insights that unveil customers' perceptions of the brand and products. These new insights reveal how customers seek recommendations, assistance, or information, providing invaluable details about specific product attributes, usage patterns, and values that customers actively seek. AI offers critical insights into the specific characteristics customers are searching for, emphasizing features, services, or values that hold the most significance to them. With this new information, retailers can simplify and personalize the shopping experience and recommendations.

How can you use critical thinking to improve E-Commerce?
Use critical thinking to focus not just on the shiny objects — branding, merchandising, and user experience. They are important, but in my experience, the most crucial elements to challenge are the purpose of the e-commerce channel within an omnichannel ecosystem and the expected profitability of it. The devil is in the details. Many brand manufacturers operate through various distribution channels, both digital and physical. What role will the e-commerce site play amidst these channels? With customer acquisition costs (CAC) and logistics expenses skyrocketing, is e-commerce a profitable venture? What are the key profitability drivers, and how can we optimize them?
