  • Summer Math Enrichment Program

During the summer of 2014, I taught a two-week summer math enrichment program to Washington, DC, elementary school children from low-income families. I created the program and its curriculum over an eighteen-month period, during which I sought input from several teachers and children's advocates. I implemented the program at Beacon House, a community non-profit, as part of Beacon House's Camp Leap. I created the program and its curriculum over an eighteen-month period, during which I sought input from several teachers and children's advocates. I implemented the program at Beacon House, a community non-profit, as part of Beacon House's Camp Leap. Camp Leap is a low-cost summer camp that provides academic and recreational activities to at-risk youth from DC's Ward 5. I taught one class of fifteen rising fourth and fifth graders and another class of twenty-five rising second and third graders. I structured the math enrichment summer program around four-problem-solving strategies and related word problems, games, and interactive experiences.

  • Hoops for Hunger

    -

While in high school at Sidwell Friends, I organized annual “community nights” built around 3-on-3 basketball tournaments. Hoops for Hunger (now in its 8th year) has attracted hundreds of attendees and contributed over $8500 (from 2011-15) to African famine relief through a combination of corporate sponsors, individual contributions, and t-shirt and food sales.
