Our brains are literally programmed to relax when we're told a story. Stories can create trust and connect us as social and emotional beings. Did you know that when we hear a story our brain releases oxytocin and regulates Cortisol? Cortisol sharpens and focuses attention. It keeps us engaged during a well-executed story. When our brains encounter a good story, oxytocin is released, causing us to feel empathy. The empathy is what causes us to want to take action. And what salesperson doesn't want a prospect to take action with a trusted advisor.
