    The Compassion & Choices team in California expects to support a bill authorizing medical aid in dying that will be introduced in the new legislative session in 2015. We are now working with legislators who have expressed support for such a bill to discuss language & timing. We know 64 percent of Californians support death with dignity, that is, the ability of a mentally competent, terminally ill adult to choose a peaceful death through access to medical aid in dying.

    Compassion and Choices advocate for the right of mentally competent, terminally ill adults to choose a peaceful death. We do not provide or administer the means to a peaceful death. We only offer support and information.
    The greatest human freedom is to live, and die, according to one's own desires and beliefs. From advance directives to physician-assisted dying, death with dignity is a movement to provide options for the dying to control their own end-of-life care. -
