Along with my colleagues in Sao Paulo, Brazil, we screened people who were blindsided due to cataract and unable to pay for cataract surgery and we performed surgery at no cost. This same campaign was repeated many times between 2004 and 2007 and we served over 3,000 people in that period.

In an effort to combat one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide, The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary marked World Glaucoma Day, March 12, 2009, with an eye screening for hundreds of United Nations officials – ambassadors, deputy ambassadors, the secretary general and staff – at the UN headquarters building in New York City on March 11th, 2009.
