“Harry is one of the most intelligent people I know. His knowledge of technology (particularly mobile apps, advanced education technology, and enterprise systems) is nothing short of remarkable. He has launched and successfully exited multiple companies. He consults broadly in the education field. And, on top of it, he’s a lot of fun and enjoys life. It has been a pleasure working with Harry for the last five years.”

My research at Leicester focused on automated understanding of text for assessment and tutoring. In support of automated scoring, I developed a platform and techniques for semantically scoring Critical Thinking assessments that required students to make claims supported by evidence and reasoning. During the course of my research into better rubrics for critical thinking, I developed a cloud-based data labeling and human / automated scoring system for speech and text. My initial focus was on…

My initial focus was on the design and implementation of a semantic grammar rubric expression language (SGREL) approach to automated scoring; this work also supported more reliable human scoring and automated feedback for critical thinking assessment. Subsequent work has revised and improved on what was possible - with a full set of data labeling and automated scoring techniques using new technologies that enabled better and more accurate feedback - change which continues to evolve almost daily!

Focus on management and strategic marketing planning. Many thanks to James Mac Hulbert, with contributions from John Whitney, Noel Capon and Bernd Schmitt. And Amir Ziv and Paul Johnson! Simultaneously ran the technology for OfferTime Promotions LLC, an e-commerce / digital marketing enterprise. Measurement That Matters - Authentic Measures of What Examinees Know and Can Do
Harry's Whitepapers -- What Motivates me to Improve Teaching, Learning and Assessment
An early attempt to address content-centric, lesson-specific scoring challenges to create actionable and reliable feedback with a Semantic Grammar Rubric Expression Language approach to drive automated feedback. BERT, transformers generally, and the huge advances of LLMs leveraging word embeddings on a previously unimaginable scale (for me!) have shown a better way. But I return to this from time to time for the clarity of purpose and goals I have been striving for...
