In support of automated scoring, I developed a platform and techniques for semantically scoring Critical Thinking assessments that required students to make claims supported by evidence and reasoning. During the course of my research into better rubrics for critical thinking, I developed a cloud-based data labeling and human / automated scoring system for speech and text. My initial focus was on the design and implementation of a semantic grammar rubric expression language (SGREL) approach to automated scoring; this work also supported more reliable human scoring and automated feedback for critical thinking assessment. Subsequent work has revised and improved on what was possible - with a full set of data labeling and automated scoring techniques using new technologies that enabled better and more accurate feedback - change which continues to evolve almost daily!
