What are the key components of a high-performing admin team?
Clear roles and responsibilities are vital; however, to create unity and drive vision, it’s important that all leaders have a thorough understanding and a role- even if that role is just to advise or be informed - in the major projects of any team. Think of a competitive swimming pool. Everyone knows where to start and where the finish line is. There are lines on the bottom of the pool providing a clear path for each swimmer. And on the surface there is usually a string of buoys keeping swimmers in their lanes. I tell my team to keep the lines on the bottom, but kill the buoys on the surface. This empowers team members to go where they need to go to empower and support the entire team, while still understanding the roadmap.

What are the best ways to demonstrate teamwork and leadership in an interview?
Do this, not only immediately before you go to the interview, but throughout your career. As you approach new tasks and develop results you're proud of, write it down. Then, when you're preparing for an interview, you simply have to review what you've documented, shape it into a relevant narrative and you'll be prepared with whatever questions arise.

How do you improve your leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills as a practice manager?
I keep a list on my phone of skills I want to learn and develop. Every day, I try to arrive at the office 15 - 20 minutes before my first meeting. I go in, shut the door, open my list and begin to seek education and insight on the skills on my list from whatever credible source I can find: LinkedIn Learning, Ted talks, Social Media experts, books, podcasts, or reaching out to mentors for help. 15 minutes a day isn't going to change my skillset immediately, but over the course of year that's 89 hours or more than 2 full work weeks worth of learning and development. And that's poweful!

How do you improve your leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills as a practice manager?
The fastest way to kill constructive feedback and limit progress is becoming defensive or deflecting criticism. Not only should you actively seek feedback, but ensure that the feedback is landing on fertile ground within your mind and heart. Listen to learn, not to respond. Don't take an immediate position on the feedback, but rather capture the feedback, analyze it and, after careful consideration, keep the good and release the bad.
