He has demonstrated emotional maturity, creativity, resilience and a high degree of intellectual ability and I am confident that he is ready to achieve whatever goals he sets for himself. I can attest to Jayson’s academic excellence and personal qualities. He began his undergraduate studies as a transfer student through Fordham’s Yellow Ribbon Program in the Spring 2011 term, after his service in Iraq with the U.S. Air Force. He immediately began a rigorous academic program with double majors in Latin American/Latino Studies and Sociology. His academic progress and excellence is noteworthy, resulting in a cumulative grade point average of 3.32 upon graduation in February 2013. His talents and aptitude for intellectual challenges, his ability to synthesize and conceptualize sophisticated ideas, and his need to apply understanding and meaning to his real-world experiences led him to several prestigious awards and achievements – as a recipient of a William J. Fulbright Fellowship to Turkey for Fall 2013; as a 2012 national finalist for the highly competitive Harry S. Truman Fellowship; as an intern in the Office of Legislative Affairs at the White House in the Spring 2013 term. And he is currently working as a Military Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill for Congressman Beto O’Rourke of Texas. From humble beginnings in the South to the U.S. military to the Iraq War to a rewarding and remarkable college career, Jayson’s character has remained steady. He is a man of integrity, good humor and is a model for others to follow. Always polite and direct, Jayson is able to express his ideas in a clear and organized manner and is an eager participant in the classroom, contributing his own ideas while welcoming and supporting the thoughts of others. In all my contacts with him as his academic advisor and administrative dean, I have come to respect his judgment and know him to be committed, professional, and clear-sighted.
