I early 2007 I completed both the Beginner and Advanced PV design/installation classes from Solar Energy International. After completing this excellent training, I accepted the job of "Manager of Training" for AEE Solar. I was so impressed with qualify of the SEI curriculum and their instructors that I hired SEI to teach dozens of 5-day training classes from 2008 through 2010. SEI is the best and these training events were instrumental at launching many solar careers. SEI rocks!

Roofing contractors have a tremendous opportunity to capitalize on the rapidly growing rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system installation business. Although the massive growth of PV system installations is by itself a compelling reason to consider expanding into the market, it is important to note solar systems have a 30-year productive life but a majority of them have been installed on roofs with only five to 15 years of remaining life. This is an opportunity for PV-knowledgeable roofing professionals to perform removal and reinstallation services for solar arrays along with necessary roof system replacement or repairs.

Installing PV arrays on tile roofs is more time consuming, complicated and expensive than installing on asphalt shingle roofs. Yet, despite the added difficulty, tile-roof solar installations are growing dramatically in active solar markets like those of Hawaii, California and Arizona. High utility rates, robust incentive programs, a plentiful solar resource and rapidly dropping module prices have helped make solar on tile roofs a reality.
