In this role, Harding retired the idea of automatically saying “no” to employee ideas, and instead investigates further. This approach has led to a twice-weekly Buzzfeed-style newsletter to share important information, and a thorough and fun onboarding process to help increase retention. The process includes a full orientation schedule with tours, catered lunches, learning sessions and even scavenger hunts.
QUICK TIP: “Don’t assume that what works now will continue to work into the future.”
EMPLOYEE IMPACT: Though there aren’t always immediate opportunities for advancement in an organization, Harding believes that training and development programs can be impactful when it comes to retention. That’s why she created an emerging leadership program and a leadership development program. “I tell all of our new hires during orientation that my goal is to make sure the time they spend at WeddingWire is enriching for their careers. I don’t take lightly their decision to add WeddingWire to their resume,” says Harding.
STRONG CULTURE: “Our corporate culture has been described in many ways, but the way I describe it is simple: Our corporate culture is one of mutual respect and mutual responsibility,” says Harding. She considers these ideals to be beacons that guide her work and help her develop creative programs and initiatives.
