    With the team support that I led and participated in, with GE Veterans Network, we gave some long-term care patients just the break they deserve. A little help here and there does make the difference.

    They expressed to each and every one of us, their gratitude with an expressed "thank you," and a firm handshake, because they knew we cared, and came to help them. In our small gesture for them (through us) that went a long way, this outreach and community service did make a difference, for…

    Chippenham Hospital, Richmond, VA, experienced a Sun Microsystems bug issue with Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 at a very inconvenient time, as a $140M Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) contract was about to be signed by the customer. The issue brought their PACS system CPU to a halt state, where the hospital's radiology imaging department could not perform patient procedures or retrieve patients' diagnostic historical examination studies or records. In a very quick turnaround, using a Sybase workaround solution, I restarted their system with a trace flag set to use LWP (light weight processes) on the Sun Solaris platform. Their system returned to normal operations, which restored the customer's confidence, and the pending contract was signed shortly thereafter.

    { The effort was during the federal government shutdown period, where I was held-on to during the furlough period, being classified as an "Essential Employee" of the federal government to remain open and working. I enjoyed a business trip to San Francisco, and I stayed at a nice place on Bush St., close to the IRM facility where work was done in the absence on a single employee at the time. How's that for a story to share? Pure joy, and thankful that the dispute finally came to a positive resolution for all concerned. }
