About 20 pieces of heavy construction vehicles are ready to start digging at the empty dirt lot near the Bush Turnpike and Wyndham Lane. The vacant field will be turned into a nearly 500,000 square foot office park in less than 18 months.

The Raytheon Company will move 1700 employees into the three-building facility, which is part of Richardson’s CityLine development project.

Raytheon is an American defense contractor and global security technology firm. They are heavily involved in missile technology and military electronics.

The construction project will be finished in the winter of 2015.

"This will be a great opportunity for Raytheon to upgrade its facilities, it will allow them to attract and retain the best employees possible," said Toby Grove, President of KDC Construction.

"It's going to be a great job-generator and tax-generator for the city of Richardson," he said.

Raytheon has about 8,000 employees in North Texas. Their space-and-airborne-systems (SAS) division last year relocated its headquarters from Southern California to nearby McKinney, Texas.
