What do you do if you want to transition from working at a Venture Capital firm to a startup?
To add to what my good friend Guy Nohra just posted, be aware of the differences - beyond the skill-set necessary to be CEO - that the two jobs entail. This transition will rely more on your EQ than your IQ; there will be a higher degree of reliance on your ability to influence rather than command; a shift in accountability (and who holds you accountable); a shift in responsibility; and a larger number of stakeholders (many of whom are convinced they know more/better than you). But, if you are up for it, being a CEO and leading a startup (or any company) to success, is one of the most gratifying jobs one can ever have. Go for it!

How can Executive Management professionals stay competitive in their field?
We live in a VUCA world (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous), where tech innovation and new business models are continuing to challenge us to adapt and reinvent ourselves and our companies. Leaders and executive management need to be at the forefront of this change to stay competitive and thrive. When I work with executives I recommend they pay special attention to these few areas: - Become a life-long learner. Declare yourselves beginners in areas of expertise that are new and enjoy the knowledge you acquire. - Network, network, network. One of the best ways to increase your ability to generate effective action is to build powerful networks. - Adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and be willing to take risks. The upside could be huge!
