How can you ensure job descriptions attract candidates with different work styles?
To make a more meaningful impact around inclusion and equity, go beyond attracting to your post, and consider what you are doing to evaluate and onboard. The challenge isn't that different styles aren't "attracted." It's that "different" resumes get filtered out. "Different" is screened in first interviews. Hiring managers are looking for specific experience that will "hit the ground running" and missing competency in "different" profiles. Do you support your hiring teams with training and tools to mitigate bias? Think about where you can mask candidates and focus on competency. You want to identify high-potential employees. How can you use leadership assessment tools?
Here's a take. All of your employees have high potential. Your organization has biases at the structural level, leaders with biases at an individual level, that make your workplace toxic to some employees, preventing them from achieving that potential, performing at the level they are capable of, and thriving in a way that drives company success. You can't identify potential without addressing barriers and bias.
