The camp, which runs each summer at the Cooperative Extension Center on Foster St, will be a partnership between the County 4-H Program and Sodexo Dining Services, North Carolina Central University's dining partner.

    Durham, NC- The Durham County 4-H Program is hosts a Farm to Fork camp that teaches local youth about the wealth of agricultural resources in the county as well as ways to cook with local foods. The camp, which runs each summer at the Cooperative Extension Center on Foster St, will be a partnership between the County 4-H Program and Sodexo Dining Services, North Carolina Central University's dining partner.

    Each morning, the campers will tour farms in the area to learn about agricultural practices, different scales of production as well as products that are grown locally and available to them. Some of the locations that the youth will visit include: Briggs Avenue Community Garden, the Raleigh Farmer’s market and Jubilee Family Farms. The youth will then return to the center each afternoon for a hands-on cooking session, hosted by the horticulture agent, Cheralyn Berry and assisted by Sodexo’s culinary professionals and management team.

    The aim of this collaborative venture is to not only teach life-skills in cooking and preparing foods to the kids but also to introduce them to feed-to-table food education and agriculture in its many forms. All food prepared during the camp will qualify as a “Mindful” meal, Sodexo’s collection of nutritious recipes that focuses on ingredient transparency, satisfying portions, and making deliciously healthy options second nature . The campers will be outfitted with chef coats and hats provided by Sodexo. The camp will culminate with a parent open-house on Friday, where families are encouraged to attend and sample the food prepared by the youth and chefs in the “Battle of the Chefs” Competition.
