“In the fall of 2013 I was facing a time of serious question in my career as I was transitioning from active duty service. As many veterans are aware, this is a time of question, concern and great change. I ran into Kim Miller at a recruiting event and she seemed to have a genuine interest in recruiting and retaining veterans. After the event I figured I would take a shot on Kim and her organization, as they had shown great confidence in my skill set and potential. To this day, I point to that decision as being one of the best I have ever made in my professional career. I reported to Kim for a year or so, and then was granted the privilege of working alongside her as a colleague for another couple of years. During that time, I was able to develop an insight into her motivations for working with veterans. I can tell you with great confidence that she is passionate for serving veterans for all the right reasons. She is not doing it because it is nice or the right thing to do. Those things are a given. She is passionate about working with veterans because she recognizes the enormous potential they bring to a team. Furthermore, she has developed a great ability to tap into that potential while empowering her people and putting them in great positions to succeed. I admire Kim's work in this arena, and strive constantly to implement some of it in my current role.”

The award was created to publicly recognize employers who provide exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employees. It is the highest in a series of employer recognition awards given by the Department of Defense.
Almost one-half of the U.S. military is comprised of the Guard and Reserve. The Department of Defense shares these citizen warriors with their civilian employers, many of whom provide significant support to their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve. This award recognizes employers who provide the most outstanding support for their Guard and Reserve employees and is presented annually by the Secretary of Defense. -
