I try to have a vocal voice for historic preservation. We host an SPS booth at the Scituate Farmers market every third Saturday for people to get to know the SPS. Our purpose is to foster an interest in the history and historic preservation of Scituate, Rhode Island.

A village review committee (VRC) is established to carry out the purpose of each district. All development in a district shall be reviewed and approved by its VRC in conformance with this section. It shall make and keep an index of all open spaces within the town publicly or privately owned including open marshlands, swamps and other wetlands for the purpose of obtaining information on the proper use of such areas. It may recommend to municipal councils, boards or agencies, a program for the better promotion, development, utilization, or preservation of open areas, streams, shores, wooded areas, roadsides, swamps, marshlands, and natural aesthetic areas. It shall keep accurate records of its meetings and actions and shall file an annual report. It shall have power to appoint, subject to the approval and confirmation of the town council, and within the budget appropriated for it by the financial town meeting, a clerk and such other employees as it may from time to time require. I was a counselor for the Archaeology Merit Badge. In doing so, I was responsible for assisting 20 students in the morning and 20 students in the afternoon (40 students total) towards achieving this badge. We discussed what archaeology is, what it is not, completed a hands-on excavation/mock dig, and stressed PRESERVATION IN PLACE!
