  • How to Create an Award-Winning Entry: Tips from a Judge

©Marketer, The Journal of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, October 2020, www.smps.org.

Many organizations use awards to help showcase their firms, market their services, and gain industry recognition. I’ve had the privilege of sitting on various judging panels, including the recent SMPS
    Marketing Communications Awards.

Participating as a juror has helped me prepare awards entries for the firms in which I’ve worked. When I judge, I look for a few key items in every entry, aside from the regular requirements. Here are a few tips I’ve learned over the years.

Our office is currently renovating, moving from designated workstations to a flexible work environment. I thought about the paper and desk accessories I had collected over the years and wondered, “Where will I put all my stuff?”

I realized that I had a lot of clutter (mentally and physically) and began a journey toward minimalism. Through my research and testing, I found ways to bring that mindset into the workplace. These ideas worked for me, but I encourage you to tweak them to fit your style.
