I have helped craft the marketing strategy for some of the biggest global brands - and what I've said in those meetings has credibility because I got started in SEO. You should start your career in SEO because you get a constant firehose of learning, compared to other paths. You have to understand design, data, coding, systems, tech - you have understand content and human interaction. If you start with paid social media mgt, not to be overly simplistic - it's using a platform that's been built. If you start with graphic design, yes it takes creativity but you're not going to develop the full range of skills necessary to grow your career in digital marketing. High-level digital marketing requires mastery of all things tech, design, & people.

You're eager to break into Digital Marketing. Which entry-level job titles should you pursue?
All digital marketing success is stats based. Yes, you have to use great creative (attention-grabbing images, great copy, etc.) - but at the end of the day you have prove everything worked. Did the creative make a difference? Did clicks turn into sales? What are the $ costs and % ratios that matter - and what can be done to improve performance? These are the foundational questions in digital marketing today so starting with answering them consistently is where you should begin your career. Putting money into the market for response is a sliver of digital marketing, the value of digital marketing is in successful campaigns - which only comes through analysis and review of outcome. Then, you can see where to improve & increase results.

How can employer branding improve candidate sourcing for recruiting positions?
Reward referrals. The lowest-cost hire is 1 you can't track back to advertising. The next lowest-cost is referral. Build your referral program where you reward current associates & you'll have a "street team" of brand evangelists. Think of every employee as an influencer (which they are) because they have a voice to promote you and share with others - or they can be silent. Do you want low cost hires or open job reqs? An employee referral program promotes your open jobs + leverages vocal employees to help source candidates. For an open req - let that dept know of their related openings. Many employees simply don't know... Provide employees with brand assets to share (graphics, links, videos, etc.) & celebrate referrals like birthdays!
