Honoring Women in the UMKC and Kansas City Community who are "Keepers of the Flame: Displaying Courage Passion and Power". This event was sponsored by UMKC’s Division of Diversity and Inclusion. This exclusive event celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Women of Color Leadership Conference, the women who have made it possible and leaders who inspire us.

The Markley Award is one of the National Association for Campus Activities Central’s highest honors. It recognizes an individual who is regarded as a positive role model for students, professional staff and associates in addition to involvement in and contributions to the NACA Central region as well as in the field of student activities.

Given to an organization or council advisor who went above and beyond their responsibilities to assist the students of the organization and made a significant contribution to their academic or professional advancement.

Given out individually from student leaders to a member of UMKC’s faculty or staff who has made a significant contribution to a student’s academic or professional advancement.

Recognizes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, or ally faculty or staff who contribute to a positive campus climate for LGBTQIA individuals. This may be through offering LGBTQIA inclusive curriculum, expanding LGBTQIA research in their discipline, challenging and working to improve campus policies and climate, providing thoughtful and inclusive programming, and/or for going above and beyond to create a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA students, faculty, and staff.

 Recognized ally for tremendous service to the LGBT community by building coalitions and fostering understanding within the community.
 Served as inspirational role model for peers and demonstrated a commitment to raising awareness of, and lobbying for, LGBT issues and events.
