Here's how you can overcome resistance to new technology in the workplace.
Ensure your current experts (in the legacy tech) are trained and provided with an environment to explore the new technologies. With time, they will gain the expertise in the new technologies and will be able to engage in helping/training others. If there are changes in workflows, help them transition from the current activities to the new activities. Help them create that mental representation and muscle memory.

Here's how you can stay ahead with the most in-demand new technologies in the IT industry.
Have you ever considered having a “discussion” or a “conversation” with a GenAI tool? Give it a go! Perhaps ask “How would Napoleon Bonaparte use Augmented Reality?” Or “What technological advances from the last 5 years would be most beneficial for him and why?” This will give you some idea of new technologies AND their applicability (something that you may be able to relate).

Here's how you can combat feelings of isolation as an IT professional working remotely.
Set up a routine where you can “join others” or have “others join you”. For example, you can have a 30 minute walk on your treadmill with a co-worker on their treadmill or bicycle. Do a “Seinfeld”. Set up time in your calendar with a co-worker where you will “chat about nothing” or rather, whatever comes to mind, no agenda, not work, just “whatever”.
-
Here's how you can cultivate a growth mindset to boost your adaptability.
A. Sharing is caring - it’s what many of our parents asked us to do. The same goes within organizations. Share your experiences with your teams so that you grow together and help the organization grow. B. Celebrate Failures along with successes. And make sure to establish the infrastructure in your organization to “allow” or “account” for failures so that people feel safe to fail and supported to recover. C. Don’t be afraid, be prepared. Turn your FEAR into a superpower by Focusing on what scares you, Educate yourself on what is making you scared, Adapt the knowledge you have learned to “defeat” what scares you, and Reshape your future with a new found superpower against FEAR. D. Listen and be present. Eliminate the noise.

Over the years, the federal government has modernized, innovated, streamlined and enhanced its internal processes and IT However, this is a challenging task given the long-lasting legacy systems and the massive size and complexity of federal programs. For instance, the Department of Veterans Affairs is the largest health care system in the U.S., and the Defense Department has requested a record-breaking investment of $145 billion in research, development, test, and evaluation for modernization and innovation in its fiscal year 2024 budget. Additionally, the General Services Administration has created several governmentwide programs and platforms over time to simplify the transition to cloud and other digital processes for federal agencies.
These examples are just a glimpse of the extensive innovation efforts in government. National security, health, safety, education, scientific advancement, global competitiveness, supply chain management, connectivity and public transportation, among others, all rely on constant investment in technology and innovation. As a result, federal IT leaders play a critical role in ensuring the well-being of the nation. In recognition of their achievements, expertise and vision for bringing their agencies into the future to better serve the people, we have identified the best of the best among WashingtonExec’s Top Government Tech Leaders to Watch in 2023. -
