“I highly recommend working with Leslie! Leslie is one of the best recruiters I worked with in the last few years. I only work with less than a handful of recruiters. She does not ghost you or leave you with no communication about roles. She has constantly kept in touch and leading with only humility. When I am back on the market for contract positions, Leslie is my first call because I know she will be there for me. She is amazing and I’m so glad I met her years ago. ”

How can you use technology to streamline team communication during recruiting?
Our team is dispersed with people in different states and time zones. We have found Slack to be the best tool to keep us engaged and communicating throughout the day. Slack is great because it is user-friendly and very easy to create huddles, and share screens. We can also see each other's availability. We pretty much chat online all day to keep each other updated on the statuses of jobs we are working on, client updates, etc. Additionally, we have team meeting via Zoom every Monday and if all else fails, we send a text if it is time sensitive. These tools really work for our team; we are tight knit and never have conflicts among the team!

How can you attract top IT talent?
Attracting IT talent has been one of my strengths, likely because I enjoy connecting with new people and genuinely care about their progress. I act as an advisor and am transparent about the process, including market trends and the status of whatever position I have represented them for. I make sure to close the feedback loop if a position closes or is cancelled. The follow up communication is very important for building trust; nobody likes being ghosted. This has resulted in people coming back to me time and time again.

How can you overcome challenges when leading remotely?
Our team hired two very green recruiters last year who are working remotely; it was a challenge training both remotely! However, both recruiters made their first placement in 6 weeks! The key for us was 1) communication and 2) building a rapport. We are on Slack and talk throughout the day--I made a point to set up regular 1:1s during the week to help with engagement and training. And we also made time for non-work-related chats. If someone was going dark, I made a point to reach out and ask if they were having challenges. It has resulted in a cohesive team; we are all team players with friendly competition and no drama--and friends at the end of the day. The recruiters checked their egos at the door and received feedback well--also key.
