What are the best techniques for building rapport over the phone?
Be a human being! I feel so many of us get wrapped up in the anxiety of cold calling that we let it affect our tone and confidence. Have a structure to your phone calls, but don't follow a script to a tee. I've seen colleagues fall victim to this and it makes the prospect feel like they are being cold-called, which has them rush you off the phone and hit you with the most common objections. Know what problem they have and what value you can bring, also dont be afraid to add in some of your personality and or light humor.

What are the best ways to prepare for a follow-up call or meeting with a prospect?
To ensure a follow up call that holds I am a big advocate in getting the next step on the current call. Use the information that was given on the call to add value and guide them towards what you think makes the most sense and why it would be beneficial. Pull up calendars and pick a date for the next call, in my experience calls that don’t have an official next step booked are more than likely to experience sales resistance and ghosting. Always add value and present from the view of how this can benefit your prospect and their organization.

What are the biggest time management challenges when collaborating with others?
When collaborating on projects with colleagues, I find it crucial to make sure others know what role they play in reaching the goal of completion. The old adage of too many chefs in the kitchen can come to light if you don’t have clear expectations on what needs to be done. Mapping out what the goal is and what steps need to be taken to get there is usually where I start. Then I will do whatever busy work that needs to be done to achieve this goal. From there you will just need to put the plan in action. Set a date you’d like to have the project completed by and block off time on calendar to get it done.

How can you use emotional intelligence to improve your cold calling success?
I think tone and being a human are two of the most important aspects to cold calling. Leading with empathy and calling with a purpose will help the flow of the conversation. I find that prospects are more willing to open up to you and be your receptive to your message if you sound authentic, many people will try to change their voice and this can be spotted easily. If you are respectful and mindful you are interrupting someone’s day, more often than not prospects will hear you out. Be confident and know what problem you solve, and you will and can find success.
