Hacking is NOT a Crime

Civil Rights and Social Action
Hacking is NOT a Crime a non-profit organization advocating global policy reform to recognize and safeguard hacker rights. We seek to raise awareness about the pejorative use of the terms "hacker" and "hacking" throughout the media and popular culture. Specifically, the negative stereotype with which the terms are so often associated. Hackers are often vilified and portrayed as unethical individuals with malicious intent.

We seek to raise awareness about the pejorative use of the terms "hacker" and "hacking" throughout the media and popular culture. Specifically, the negative stereotype with which the terms are so often associated. Hackers are often vilified and portrayed as unethical individuals with malicious intent.
Because of this, many hackers refrain from publicly disclosing privacy and security vulnerabilities they discover for fear of legal retaliation. Consequently, this is creating an increasingly hostile digital frontier for everyone. The only viable remedy is to provide safeguards for hackers conducting good-faith privacy and security research. -

Education
Learning Communities are a way for Freshman to get to know people, the culture, and their field a bit better at Auburn University. Each LC has a professor and a Peer Instructor. Peer Instructors are upperclassmen who aid in teaching the basics of the course and provide guidance in all things Auburn. Our specific LC was "Be Well". We taught Health Promotion basics and discussed pressing health-related topics surrounding campus.

Improving performance by anchoring movement and “nerves”

Golf’s governing bodies’ recent decision to ban all putting styles “anchoring one end of the club against the body” bridges an important practical problem with psychological theory. We report the first experiment testing whether anchoring provides technical and/or psychological advantage in competitive performance. Many “greats” of professional golf from Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus to Tiger Woods have argued against anchoring, believing that it takes “nerves” out of competitive performance and therefore artificially levels the playing field. To shed more light on the issue, we tested participants’ performance with anchored and unanchored putters under low and high pressure when controlling for the putter length. We found no statistically significant evidence for a technical advantage due to anchoring but a clear psychological advantage: participants who anchored their putters significantly outperformed unanchored counterparts under high, but not low, pressure. Results provide tentative evidence for the ban’s justification from a competitive standpoint. However, before any definite conclusions can be made, more research is needed when using high-level golfers.
