What are some innovative ways to create a more inclusive and diverse architecture team?
A quick and very useful guideline to be brought up at the beginning of any meeting as a reminder: - Make space Be mindful of how long you have been talking and leave room for others to join the conversation - Take space Speak up and constructively share your perspective with the group. - Listen actively Instead of forming your response as others talk, actively listen to them and then contribute with your perspective once they finish talking. - Include everyone If you notice someone is trying to speak up unsuccessfully, find a way to bring them into the conversation.

What are some innovative ways to create a more inclusive and diverse architecture team?
Indeed, participating in the mentoring program we've been running for underrepresented groups in our company has been a great source of learning and personal satisfaction to me. The feedback I get from mentees is deeply gratifying, and I can see how I'm actually helping. I'd say that it's more than mentoring - for instance, I've been far from a technical position for quite some time, however I've been able to provide coaching in career development that is independent of technical knowledge to people in our architecture team, and it's been really helpful to remove some blocks not related with tech skills. Building confidence, identifying self-limiting behaviours, reflecting on self-care, are often key aspects to progress commonly neglected.

What are some innovative ways to create a more inclusive and diverse architecture team?
It's also fundamental to have a diverse hiring board. Candidates want to see they are represented since interview time! Job postings must be reviewed by people with knowledge in the subject. When utilizing recruiters, particularly for senior positions, demand that they bring an equal number of strong candidates from underrepresented groups, for example for each suitable resume from a male candidate, another resume from a female candidate. Equity starts in the sourcing process!
