Upon the 30th anniversary of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act Vitamin Retailer Magazine honors 30 individuals who have shaped the dietary supplement industry.

NutraIngredients USA annually honors an individual who has made significant contributions to the dietary supplement industry over the course of a their career. Mr. Israelsen was recognized for his role in the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 and it's implementation over the past 30 years.

Awarded in recognition of 40 years of outstanding, distinguished leadership and service to the natural products industry to defend the rights of consumers and advance the safety, science and quality of dietary supplements.

The Herbal Community Builder Award is granted annually to an individual in the herbal medicine community who has played a significant role in creating a sense of community among herbalists, researchers, members of the herb and natural products communities, and related groups who work in the area of medicinal plants. It is named after ABC Founder and Executive Director Mark Blumenthal.

In March of 2012, New Hope Natural Media inducted the first class of honorees into the Hall of Legends which recognizes those individuals who have devoted significant portions of their lives to making the industry what it is today.

NFM pays homage to people who persevere to grow a healthy industry. Mr. Israelsen was honored to be selected as one of these 25 people. In the words of the magazine: "Our list of 25 supplement visionaries was born of hours of debate, struggle and learning. Many were left off. Many have passed on. All of these 25 have given of themselves, faced criticism and persevered to grow a healthy industry."

The Nutrition Business Journal honored Mr. Israelsen for his lifetime contribution to the development of the dietary supplement industry and as a champion of both the industry and principles embodied in nutrition and the natural products industry.

The NNFA President's Award is presented to an individual who has made long-time contributions in the natural products industry or has made a one-time, uniquely significant impact on the industry. Mr. Israelsen was honored for his work in development, negotiation and passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994.

Thirty individuals were honored for their work over the past 30 years to support and defend natural healing. The categories included activists, ambassadors, pioneers, teachers and torchbearers. Mr. Israelsen was honored in the category of activists.

The B.Y. Morrison Memorial Lecture Series was established in 1958 by the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to honor the memory of Benjamin Y. Morrison and to recognize scientists who have made outstanding contributions to ornamental horticultural and other environmental sciences, to encourage the use of these sciences and to stress the urgency of preserving and enhancing natural beauty.
