13 years ago when the Affordable Care Act passed, it revolutionized how the United States thought about healthcare delivery. At a time where healthcare was already becoming more tech-enabled, diverse, and quality-focused, the ACA cemented a transition that every single healthcare organization in the country would have to manage: healthcare was rapidly unbundling and moving outside of the traditional walls of hospitals.

13 years later, our healthcare system is at a true breaking point: healthcare costs more than it ever has , the workforce burnout crisis was declared a national priority , and we have some of the worst healthcare outcomes of all developed countries . What happened?

In the process of modernizing care delivery, it became abundantly clear that healthcare organizations would need fundamentally different infrastructure to meet patients where they are and refocus on improving outcomes. Today, panel sizes have increased yet care teams are short-staffed, inundated with an unsustainable volume of calls and inbox messages, and spending less time than ever before with patients . Without a way to expand their clinical capacity to support both their clinicians and patients, healthcare organizations will collapse.

And it’s already starting. Nearly 70% of hospitals in the U.S. ended last year in the red. The lack of infrastructure to support patients outside the four walls of the hospital has allowed new market entrants, with their digital care models and engagement strategies, to swoop in. While so many investments have been made in digital tools that either focus on just the patient experience or provider experience, it is abundantly clear that health systems truly need new infrastructure that unlocks the EMR for their care teams, re-centers the clinician experience on actually delivering care, and more proactively allows patients to navigate their care.

This is what Memora Health has spent the last 6 years building. Memora’s intelligent care enablement platform helps healthcare organizations completely transform the care delivery process for both care teams and patients, extending the capacity of clinicians by helping them focus on top-of-license practice while improving the patient experience by proactively engaging patients with responsive SMS journeys. This week, we are grateful to be announcing a strategic investment of $30 million, led by General Catalyst with participation from new and existing health system partners such as Northwell Health and NorthShore University HealthSystem . In this environment, this is a strong vote of confidence in what Memora is building and the strategic direction we are headed.

This investment is happening at a crucial time for both Memora Health and the healthcare industry at large. As we continue to grow at a rapid clip, the funding will allow us to continue building our data analytics infrastructure to better inform how care delivery should look for every single patient while also scaling our reach to more health systems, health plans, and digital health companies.

As patients, we have come to expect the same convenient, on-demand interactions with our healthcare experiences that we have grown accustomed to in every other aspect of our lives. Across the country, clinicians are embracing intelligent care enablement technologies as extensions of their care teams — tasked with keeping an open line of communication with patients, fielding routine questions, and handling the administrative tasks that keep overburdened clinicians bound to their computers — and Memora is proud to be the leading platform for enabling this.
