This is a cause very close to my heart. PYDS is a society founded by a retired economist Mr GK Swamy for the education of disadvantaged children in the town of Dehradun in Uttarakhand India. It also runs an org. called Stree Shakti that empowers women in the area. I have adopted two children in this society for their education through school and have gained much inner satisfaction contributing to their cause and mentoring and coaching them. It enthused me a lot to be part of a movement that helped bring together American corporations such as Motorola, Alcatel Lucent, Kraft etc. with Indian companies of the likes of Infosys, Tata et al. Now of course there is much dovetailing between the businesses in the two countries but at that time there was much work to be done through effective networking. My ability as a natural leader, people oriented person with good interpersonal skills and a good organizer led to this role. As General Secretary (G-Sec) my task was to build a team, organize guest lectures, discussion forums, outings and an industrial tour across the length and breadth of the country to visit manufacturing firms and learn from them. I honed my entrepreneurial skills here selling branded IIT T-shirts and fixing a broken Go-Kart on campus to arrange paid rides for students! This… Show more
