Investment fiduciaries are constantly exposed to legal and practical scrutiny — it comes from multiple directions and for various reasons. It is likely that complaints and/or lawsuits alleging investment mismanagement will continue to increase. Although some of these allegations may be justified, many can be avoided by having clear knowledge of who constitutes a fiduciary and what is required of one.

The service award is given for service to the industry and the community. Mel was the President of 4 Professional Trade Associations, the only person to do so. He also has been active supporting the Special Needs Community providing Complimentary Educational Workshops addressing the legal and financial needs of Special Needs…

He also provides Complimentary Consultations to the families with Dependents with Special Needs to address each family's unique needs. He also Coached youth sports in soccer and Fast Pitch Softball in his local community and High School levels.

Jack Richter Memorial Award
Silicon Valley Chapter of the National Association of FInancial Service Advisors
The Jack Richter Memorial Award is a career recognition issued by the local chapter of NAIFA. The award recognizes excellence in productivity in the industry, leadership and service to the industry. This recognition is not given annually as criteria is established such that few individuals qualify. The award is named after Jack Richter, the original Executive Director of the Association. He is the only recipient of both the Richard S Smith & Jack Richter Awards.

91st Division Maneuver Training Command (MTC)
As Unit Training Management Officer, Mel was responsible for all training within the 5 Divisions within the Maneuver Training Command (MTC). Mel was the first and only Training Management Officer to have all 5 Divisions pass the Annual General Inspection. He was promoted to Major and received the Army Comendation Medal for the Management of unit training, training management and passing the AGI.

During Mel’s tenure as President, the Association had the largest membership in the Association’s history.
