Well, I NEED YOUR HELP in raising awareness for the 7,000+ rare diseases out there! I’ve joined a virtual Denim Dash fundraiser to walk 3.1 miles in support of the RARE Community benefiting Global Genes, a non-profit patient advocacy organization dedicated to eliminating the challenges of rare disease by providing critical connections & resources to educate the global community.

As one of many affected by rare diseases, I hope you will join me by registering to be a virtual dasher or making a donation to my team at http://tinyurl.com/DenimDash2016MelissaHorn

Imagine our Lights of HOPE standing together in front of the Lincoln Memorial, shining a light on the need for Congress to do even more in the fight against cancer.

In September, more than 25,000 Lights of HOPE will line the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. For some, the ceremony is a celebration of survivorship. But, for far too many, it’s a remembrance of someone who was lost to this dreaded disease.

In September, more than 25,000 Lights of HOPE will line the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. For some, the ceremony is a celebration of survivorship. But, for far too many, it’s a remembrance of someone who was lost to this dreaded disease.

Each Light of HOPE bag represents a minimum of a $10 donation to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. Your Light of HOPE will be personalized with the name of the person you’re honoring and placed in front of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as part of this moving evening.

I’ll be honoring my friends and family at this very special event. I’d love for those you know who have been touched by cancer - friends and loved ones - to be part of it too.

300,000. That’s how many women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news? Thanks to research and funding from Congress, early detection and prevention is fighting cancer at its earliest stages.

I’m living proof of that since the tissue they found in my left breast last year wasn’t even stageable yet and I had the choice to get a prophylactic mastectomy and not have to worry about ever going through chemo or radiation for breast cancer.

I’m living proof of that since the tissue they found in my left breast last year wasn’t even stageable yet and I had the choice to get a prophylactic mastectomy and not have to worry about ever going through chemo or radiation for breast cancer.

Of course we are only #MakingStridesAgainstBreastCancer by funding research and covering screenings like mammograms, so the “fight” is not over. That’s why I volunteered for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Washington, DC event and signed the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network - ACS CAN’s petition to urge Congress to fund mammograms!

...because Breast Cancer Awareness Month is about more than getting them checked, it’s about making sure everyone is covered and CAN get checked!
