“I have worked with Mike Curley as a peer and as one of his direct reports at various times over the past 25-30 years. I had the pleasure of seeing him start in the Materials Management group in Borger, Texas and watched as he became one of, if not the best Commercial Managing Director that DCP Midstream had when I worked with him in East Texas. Mike's keen business savvy and negotiation skills have always impressed me. It's one thing to know the details about your own business but Mike takes those extra steps to know as much, if not more about our competitors. Mike's commercial skills are second to none but I was a little skeptical when I first learned that DCP was going to promote him to Vice President and he was going to be over Operations and MY BOSS! Vice President.... sure. It was the Operations part I was unsure of. I wasn't the only one that was skeptical. My direct reports were as well. Mike took to the role with his usual full speed ahead manner. He had inherited a Region that was encumbered with high operating costs, declining volumes, and poor mechanical reliability due to deferred maintenance. Mike spent a lot of time talking operations people throughout the asset trying to understand the issues. He asked a lot of questions but most of all he listened and he learned. He also allowed the ones that did understand operations to do their jobs and always gave credit where credit was due. He may not have started out as an Operations Guy but he was one when he left DCP! Mike inherited a mess when he first came to the Mid-Continent Region as VP but through his leadership and skills he left a region that has a much lower cost structure, significantly improved mechanical reliability, employees with greater business acumen and stable volumes. ”
