    The report provides a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the San Francisco Public Library's largest capital program -- a 14-year project that resulted in building or renovating 24 of San Francisco’s 27 neighborhood branch libraries. Key findings: (1) for every $1 invested in the San Francisco Branch Library Improvement Program (BLIP), the city realized a return of between $5.19 and $9.11; (2) the capital investments and additional operating spending associated with the BLIP contributed…

    The report provides a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the San Francisco Public Library's largest capital program -- a 14-year project that resulted in building or renovating 24 of San Francisco’s 27 neighborhood branch libraries. Key findings: (1) for every $1 invested in the San Francisco Branch Library Improvement Program (BLIP), the city realized a return of between $5.19 and $9.11; (2) the capital investments and additional operating spending associated with the BLIP contributed more than $330 million in indirect and induced benefits to the San Francisco economy; (3) public meeting room space increased by 62%; (4) public access computers increased by 135%; (5) participation in children and youth programs increased by 235%; (6) participation in non-English programs increased by 349%; (7) public satisfaction with library services increased by 8%; (8) branch open hours increased by 22%; (9) system-wide electricity usage decreased by 8% over two years; (9) system-wide water usage decreased by 6%
