In my dissertation research, I’ve started to notice that there is not a clear standard for hiring and retaining diverse talent. When hiring diverse talent, more authoritarian leaders might trust the employees to perform technical skills, but not trust/listen to the SME’s input. The Socially Embedded Model of Thriving at Work requires broad information sharing, a climate of trust & respect, as well as decision making discretion to properly thrive at work. Not collaborating effectively can negatively impact the unit’s development, meaning, relationships, and resources produced. Additionally, effective collaboration can help diverse talent feel seen as equal to their peers and focus on their individual strengths.
