How can you use social media to inspire and motivate your team?
I do believe that creating a vision internally is critically important in any organization. I'm not so sure that communicating that vision externally, via social media, is as important. The most successful companies I know create a mission statement or have a set of corporate values that are crystal clear and come directly from the top. I suggest that hiring align strongly with those core values. Social media, in my mind, is better suited for clearly articulating a value proposition. This is particularly important with technical products/services. Answer why potential buyers/partners would want to work with you. Leave the vision internally, treat your people right, and your vision will naturally grow and thrive.

What are the best ways to negotiate a salary increase over email?
Before even asking for a raise, evaluate the company that is employing you. Ask questions about their review process. Is it timely? What are the criteria used to determine annual raises? Because I'm a recruiter, and I typically talk to people after they are fed up, I ask them to revisit what they've done to ask for a raise or to directly address their grievances with their hiring manager. If the grievance is directly with that boss, then what have they done with HR or the owners? Too often these days, I find conflict resolution skills deeply lacking. Instead of addressing possible solutions to an issue, employees that don't like to hit issues head on, will move on. That's actually sad if they could learn and grow from the experience.
