“Mike Pinkowish joined the front-end development team at Time Inc Interactive in the end of spring 2007, upon his high school graduation, and returned for the summer of 2008 as a web application developer. In a short period of time, Mike proved that, despite his young age, he understood the most compelling reasons for using CSS and XHTML, unobtrusive JavaScript, DOM and progressive enhancement over outdated methods. In fact, he continuously worked on separating design, content, and functionality within web pages in his assignments. He codes in a way that makes the final product an interaction between the site’s design and the web users’ needs. His work at Time Inc. Interactive has been a mix of production and innovation. On the innovation side, he worked from the idea to the information architecture while creating functional prototypes where the users could interact and be engaged with realistic data. For example, he convinced TIME.com and Health.com to adapt and put into production the idea of using the Twitter API as a powerful marketing tool. On the production side, Mike has worked in the full gamut of web application development: analyzing old sites and writing recommendations for improvement, programming in standards-based XHTML, CSS and JavaScript, features with AJAX and JSON, and server-side development with PHP and front-end integration with RoR. I consider Mike's strength to be the ability to rapidly learn practically any new and useful technology as well as being a team player, the benefits of which he brought to his Time Inc. engagement over the course of two summers. Time Inc. business clients have included mostly major online publishing web products such as TIME, Real Simple, GOLF, and Health. Please contact [email protected] for further reference.”
