How can you foster franchisee pride and ownership?
Each of the candidates I work with will be introduced to 2-5 franchisees. Part of that is to benefit the candidate. Another major point of those discussions is to get franchisee feedback on those candidates. Did they call on time? Were they respectful? Did you enjoy the time? When you call and ask for feedback after their discussions, your franchisees will feel valued. If they had a negative experience, listen and take their opinion to heart. When you listen to their feedback and act accordingly, it shows that you are all on the same team and they will be more likely to continue those calls with candidates. Lastly, ask for feedback on the process and on how you can be serving them better. There is no better way to grow and improve.

How can you foster franchisee pride and ownership?
Franchisee validation is crucial to candidates looking to make their decision. In my experience, giving public recognition is great, but making it personal has gone a long way. When you see your franchisees doing great thing, reach out to them. It could be, hosting a toy drive during the Holidays or you heard positive feedback from one of your candidates as it relates them them and their team, Call or Text them and let them know. Did one of them just break a sales record? Send them a note. Those one off touch points are things you would do for any one of your franchise friends, why not do that in the brand family as well? The other things that has served me well is being accessible. When they have feedback, always be open to listening.

How can you foster franchisee pride and ownership?
On each initial call, I ask every candidate WHY they are looking into business ownership. What I hear consistently is they want to put their fingerprints on something, do something they are passionate about, and they want to do something they are proud of. That starts at the top with brand reputation, their relationship with the home office, and the impact they are making. We need to seek to be transparent with who we are and how the business and brand can fit in with their goals. While going through the Discovery phase, our number one priority should be aligning ourselves with people who share our vision and letting them know who we are to start that relationship off of the right foot.
