It also demonstrated select WDM initiatives to the public. IDARA utilized a participatory approach that involved all stakeholders in the process while building their capacity. Key achievements:
 A strategic business plan for WDM tied to established linkages between all relevant institutions.
 An approved WDM Policy with supporting action plans.
 A work plan for the development of a labeling program for Jordan.
 Legal assessment that outlines the limitations of existing water laws together with recommendations.
 Promoted water wise landscaping and integrated it into municipal planning and university curricula. Developed a Water Wise Park Landscape Guide, surveyed public reactions to these parks, and trained engineers from 60 municipalities on water-wise landscaping principles.
 Developed best management practices guide for hotels, hospitals, high rise buildings, and office buildings.
 Carried-out end-use analysis of residential, institutional and commercial users.
 A pilot program in Abu-Nuseir for installing Water Saving Devices and measuring the impact.
 Implemented the “Let’s save water” communication campaign in partnership with HSBC.
 Instituted water-use efficiency tracking tools in water utilities, enabling economic analyses of WDM programs.
 Supported draft the National Plumbing Code and associated certification procedures.
 Supported the King Abdullah II Center for Excellence in integrating water and energy use efficiency sub criteria in its public sector award.
IDARA won the second place distinction award of the “Global Water Intelligence 2010 Award” for the “Water Efficiency Project of the Year". Furthermore, the project was presented as a case study at various conferences including the International Water Association’s Efficient 2009 and Efficient 2011 Conferences.

This $7.3 million project aimed to reduce agricultural demand for fresh water by improving on-farm practices that result in improved water-use efficiency. It also worked on improving the economic return of the agricultural sector by promoting improved post-harvest practices, bringing in EurepGAP certification, promoting contract farming, and introducing profitable varieties of cropping patterns. KAFA’A also worked on advocating for legislative amendments. Key achievements:
 A comprehensive communication campaign of 135 different educational materials. This included: radio drama series programs, fact sheets, farmer manuals, posters and television announcements.
 Trained 36 journalists which improved the accuracy and frequency of newspaper articles on related subjects.
 Established demonstration sites for best management practices at As-Samra, Jordan Valley and Mafraq. Trained more than 1,000 farmers on these practices.
 Established a date palm nursery and training center to provide quality date palm offshoots at reasonable prices.
 Established ten revolving funds that promote more efficient water practices, better use of treated wastewater, fish farming, and EurepGap infrastructure.
 Increased the percentage of farmers aware of good agricultural practices for export marketing from 8% to 25%. Some switched to desirable behaviors that improve water efficiency.
 Developed a GIS based “Crop Suitability Map” for the Jordan Valley to assist in making cropping pattern recommendations according to local climatic, soil, and water quality characteristics.
 Drafted two water policies for the Ministry of Water & Irrigation and two for the Ministry of Agriculture.
 Certified: 49 Agricultural Communication Specialists, 35 Irrigation Management Specialists, 2 International Inspectors for EurepGap, 8 EurepGap consultants and 23 Post-harvest Management Specialists.
