A new offering from Bumper tries to solve for this by aggregating all the disparate sources and elements possible to measure forms of engagement more effectively including: Verified listeners Total listen time Average listen time Number of followers Number of downloads. The good news is that they're also tapping into that titan of podcast discovery, YouTube, and combining that with data from the podcast hosting provider, marketing attribution services, and podcast apps. Spotify has joined the effort and is adding Listening Time info as well. Of course, it all depends on the KPIs you set out when you developed your podcast strategy as to what you need to measure and why. But we're making progress.

Write with two things in mind: your authentic voice (even if you’re “borrowing” the voice of your client) and the audience you’re targeting. How would the audience like to be spoken to?: Casually? Formally? And consistency includes tenses. Review your work to check against a mix of past and present, for example.

Remember your personal brand should be a reflection of your personal values, too... just like a company brand. Communicate what you stand for (authenticity? reliability? purpose-driven?), be consistent in your style (e.g.: I aim for "accessible but professional"), and then always "walk the talk!"

There are tons of great tools to help, too. Take a look at the new offerings from Canva, for example, to help create a more polished resume or portfolio. (Not an endorsement; just a tip!)

Networking and mentoring should be a two-way street: offer value on each side. At networking events, spotlight others, such as featuring them in photos and sharing their insights via social media -- and ask how you can help them, vs always seeking help. There are always levels of experience represented at events, too: you may just as easily find someone who agrees to mentor you (even as a one-off over coffee or an emailed question!), as being a help to a more junior person who appreciates your mentorship!
