“The more you know”. This old adage never gets old. I spent nearly two years working Covid crisis assignments at the height of the pandemic. I was thrown into a predominantly Spanish speaking community. I went from speaking terrible Spanish to tolerable Spanish. And it was a beautiful experience. I was eager to learn. I wanted to learn. Eliminating the communication barrier was the least I could do in a community that was being ravaged by the corona virus. Having a servant’s heart and being passionate about positively impacting others makes learning a beautiful process

You're struggling to understand and appreciate different cultures. How can you overcome this?
Acknowledging your own biases is a critical step in the process. Use the energy you’ve put into the belief that you don’t have any and take the opportunity to reflect and ask yourself the hard questions - how do you view others? What are your thoughts on diversity, equity, and inclusion? We should always be open to growth and engaging in opportunities that make us better.

How can you use design thinking to spark creativity in your team?
Empathy allows us the unique opportunity to view the world and those in it through a different lens. Transformational leadership begins with providing the tools employees need to help facilitate their sense of ownership and worth in the organization. A group think would be one way to implement design thinking with the ultimate goal being developing a working solution to meet the needs of the clients, staff and organization collectively.
