You're navigating the patient advocacy industry. What networking strategies should you prioritize?
Cultivating relationships has been the cornerstone of my Independent Patient Advocacy practice. This includes developing a strategic outreach plan, creating a solid follow up plan, targeting only those individuals with whom I can see myself engaging with regularly for the long term. This means these are the individuals whom align with me and my personal values, ethics, and social activities. These types of connections are much easier to manage and navigate from a place of authenticity. Developing with this type of authenticity allows for the strongest and most valuable relationships; both personally and professionally.

You're navigating patient advocacy challenges. How can you enhance active listening skills?
After more than 25 years of working with patients and families during their healthcare journey's the single most important thing I have learned is that most have no idea what they want or need during their healthcare experience. As a result, I have become exceptionally successful at active listening in order to put words to their feelings. It is truly remarkable the connection that can be built by providing a safe space for them to express themselves and repeating back to them the words and phrases that perfectly express what they have thus far been unable to explain. Utilizing active listening to demonstrate empathy in this manner is life changing for both the patient, their family, and those of us who serve them.
