Projects

  • Case Study on Design and Analysis of a Full Face Motorcycle Helmet

    • Reverse engineered a Vega Insight full-face motorcycle helmet using SolidWorks.
    • Performed structural analyses (ANSYS) to test the design for impact resistance and drop test.
    • Used results from the FEA to identify critical dimensions, to modify the overall performance of the helmet.

  • Smart Phone Operated Intelligent Window

Conceptualized, designed a successfully demonstrated a smart window concept, which could vary it's transparency from fully transparent to fully opaque, depending on the intensity of the sunlight outside the house.
This window was also capable of being controlled by means of a Bluetooth enabled Android smartphone.
A prototype was built for the same, and demonstrated at Schneider Innovation Challenge 2012, where it was awarded first place across the country.

Based on the studies, a number of generic 3D-printable “connectors” were design and fabricated, which would allow the development of high-quality low-fidelity prototypes. These prototypes, although very easy to build, were highly efficient in demonstrating relative motion as well as product functionality. Following this, a method was proposed to take the prototypes directly to CAD stage by 3D scanning the prototypes.

  • Design of Experiments Approach to Complex Queuing Networks

    -

•A shop floor consisting of 4 machine groups was considered.
•Each machine group had a number of identical machines for parallel processing, and the maximum number of machines in each group was limited by the budget constraints for the job shop resource allocation.
    • Objective was to study the effect of each of the control variables on the throughput time of the job shop, using DoE techniques.
    • The experiment consisted of 4 input variables and one response variable.

•Minitab was used to perform the ANOVA and determine the effects and interaction plots.
•The conclusions of the experiment helped determine the significance of the control variables on the throughput time, thereby allowing the optimization of the throughput time.

  • Optimization of Ordering Schedule for Diesel Engines Manufacturing Plant

    -

Optimized the ordering schedule and inventory level using EOQ model, for a diesel engines manufacturing plant. The project also involved the analysis of demands over the pat 2 years, in order to determine the optimum models to be applied for the optimization.

  • Heat Integrated Kinetic Energy Recovery System

    -

Developed an energy recovery system for four-wheel vehicles, which was capable of recovering the otherwise lost kinetic energy (during braking) and the heat energy (from exhaust gases) in a single module, and deliver the recovered energy back to the car, there by increasing the efficiency of the car.
Modeled the system on Unigraphics (NX 8.0), to validate the proof-of-concept.

The project was presented at the PACE Global Annual Summit in Pasadena CA, where it was awarded 2nd place…
