How can you help team members read nonverbal cues in communication?
Many years ago I was told by a senior manager that I need to learn how to have a poker face. He stated that my body language always reflected when I was happy, sad or mad. I was passed over for a promotion because of his opinion of my body language. I am still learning how to have that "poker face" in the workplace. I had to learn to adjust my emotions through my own observation, reflection, study, practice and of course feedback from other managers. I believe you can enhance your ability to read nonverbal cues effectively. Remember that improving in this skill takes time, patience, and consistent effort, but the benefits of understanding nonverbal communication are invaluable in various personal and professional settings.

How do you mentor individuals who resist learning?
In my experience when dealing with someone who is being resistant to learning, is to first build trust with open communication. Establish a trusting and non-judgmental relationship with the individual to make them feel safe and comfortable sharing their concerns and limitations with you. Secondly, I would set clear goals. Defining specific, achievable learning goals together. Ensure that these goals align with their personal and professional aspirations, which can boost motivation. Then customize an approach to their learning style and preferences. Some people learn best through hands-on experience, while others prefer reading or watching videos. Of course, I would be patient during the process.

How do you work with managers to ensure learning transfer?
To ensure effective training transfer, it's crucial to include managers in the process when creating the training, based on the desired outcomes and maintain open communication with managers. Collaborating with managers to set clear expectations, and then provide ongoing support and resources to help managers teach back the newly acquired skills among their teams.
